The name of the lake refers to Joe Robert Lafrenière the founder of Lac-à-Jos-Bob. The first log cabin was built in 1885 and is still being used today. Domtar became the owner of the estate in 1978, which has been used as their private fishing estate since then. Throughout the years, a sugar shack and further infrastructure were built.
For the past 30 years, Lac-à-Jos-Bob is stocked with Arctic Char, Rainbow Trout & Brook Trout. Guests can expect to fish on average 20 pounds of fish during their 2-day stay. They can expect fish of approximately 2 to 5 pounds. The biggest fish ever caught was 10.5 pounds and is currently exposed in the living room. The lake is stocked with 3,000 pounds of arctic char every year. The lake is one of the very few in the country to have the permit to stock arctic char. The fishing season starts in May and ends in September.
